Diesel Engines

More Popular and Efficient... But with certain challenges.

Almost every motor vehicle manufacturer now offers a diesel engine version of their vehicles but we also see some emerging problems associated with these.

Small sedans, four wheel drives, light trucks and heavy commercial vehicles all offer diesel engines with the latest technology of common rail, direct injection fuel systems.

What are the Common Problems now emerging?

Water in diesel fuel tanks particularly associated with biodiesel (ethanol based) fuels.

With biodiesel fuel, the flash point is lowered from 50˚C to 10˚C , causing greater risk of fire.

Water in fuel does not compress, so can cause significant damage to injectors, as direct injection systems operate at fuel pressures of between 25,000 psi and 30,000 psi.

Carbon forms in all engines through inefficient fuel combustion, causing valve wear and valves not seating or closing properly.

Exhaust gas recirculation systems designed to reduce exhaust emissions are causing huge problems with carbon tracking back and blocking the inlet manifold and damaging the EGR control valve, resulting in total engine failure and costing commercial operators significant downtime.

Some vehicles fitted with diesel particulate filters are experiencing build-up of excess particulates, demanding an expensive repair at the vehicle approved workshop. Some commercial vehicles are fitted with an “Adblue” system to assist in controlling exhaust emissions.

What's The Solutions so you can enjoy The Maximum Efficiency with Diesel Engine Vehicles?

The consistent use of Pro-Ma Performance Products DT5 Diesel Fuel Treatment will address these potential problems.

  • The “Surfactant” in DT5 is designed to control water by breaking down the water into small droplets, encapsulating that droplet in a long chain polymer molecule and passing it through the engine system harmlessly.
  • Pro-Ma Performance DT5 “Combustion Modifier” will assist with a complete burn of fuel in the combustion chamber, so there are no carbon deposits caused through unburnt fuel, as well as proven fuel savings.
  • The consistent application of DT5 in every fuel fill will assist with the efficient operation of Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems, as there will be no carbon build-up causing blockage of the inlet manifold and breakdown of the EGR Control Valve. As well, the PBAL lubricant in DT5 will assist in lubricating the EGR Valve, as well as the fuel injection pump and fuel injectors, which helps decrease the expensive downtime cost to a commercial operator.
  • Vehicles fitted with diesel particulate filters that are not driven at highway speeds can cause major blockage and demand expensive repairs only able to be undertaken at an approved dealer workshop. DT5 used consistently can assist in the efficient operation of the diesel particulate filter.
  • Commercial vehicles fitted with the “adblue” system and consistently using DT5 Diesel Fuel Treatment, report a huge decrease in use of the “adblue”, as the fuel burning more efficiently does not demand the operation of the “adblue” system as frequently.

Diesel engines are more efficient and fun to drive, as the common rail direct injection systems offer a very responsive acceleration and lowered service costs. However, the consistent application of Pro-Ma Performance Products DT5 Diesel Fuel Treatment will guarantee the most cost effective and increased efficiency method of enjoying the maximum benefits from your vehicle, both commercial and domestic.

Q. Can the Pro-Ma Performance Products DT5 Diesel Fuel Treatment be used in Common Rail Direct Injection diesel engines?

A. Pro-Ma Performance Products DT5 Diesel Fuel treatment is absolutely ideal for use in Common Rail Direct Injection diesel engines. Older technology diesel engines used a rotating fuel injection pump to supply diesel fuel to each of the cylinders, commonly at a fuel line pressure of approximately up to 12,000 psi. Common Rail Direct Injection diesel engines technology is much more efficient and electronically delivers diesel fuel to each cylinder via a common fuel rail at a fuel line pressure of approximately 30,000 psi or above. Therefore, any water that may be present in the fuel would be delivered to the fuel injector. Water cannot be compressed so with the extremely high fuel line pressure, the water attempting to inject through to the injector can do excessive damage. The Surfactant in the DT5 Diesel Fuel Treatment assists to control water so can eliminate this problem. Further, the Poly Butane Ashless Lubricant (PBAL) assists in lubricating the fuel injection pump and injectors.

Q. How does the Pro-Ma Performance Products DT5 Diesel Fuel Treatment work with Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems, Diesel Particulate Filters and Adblue Systems.

A. Modern day diesel engines are now often fitted with one or more of the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems, Diesel Particulate Filters or Adblue Systems designed by engine manufacturers to reduce harmful exhaust emissions now demanded by government authorities.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems are designed, simply, to pass exhaust gases back through to the inlet manifold in an attempt to "re-burn" the exhaust gases and thus reduce exhaust emissions. Obviously, this can cause huge problems as carbon deposits can often track back into the inlet manifold with the exhaust gases, at times, causing complete failure of the EGR Valve and almost completely blocking the inlet manifold. This can result in a very expensive repair as well as excessive down time as the inlet manifold often has to be soaked for three days to remove the carbon.

Failure within an EGR System can occur in as little as 30,000km from new. The consistent use of Pro-Ma Performance Products DT5 Diesel Fuel Treatment in every tank of fuel can greatly assist in eliminating this problem with EGR Systems.

The "Combustion Modifier" in DT5 diesel fuel treatment is designed to assist the diesel fuel to burn completely and more efficiently within the combustion chamber saving money on fuel useage and eliminating carbon deposits within the combustion chamber. Therefore, with EGR Systems, because there is no deposit of carbon, there will be no tracking of carbon through to the EGR system and no blocking of the inlet manifold saving a very expensive repair.

Diesel Particulate Filters are often installed within the exhaust system (in a similar way a catalytic converter is installed in petrol engine vehicles), again, in an attempt to reduce harmful exhaust emissions demanded by government authorities.

Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are designed to capture harmful exhaust particulates (often these can be carcinogenic) before they enter the atmosphere. The DPF is designed to "burn off" the captured particulates when these particulates reach a certain level. However, to burn off the particulates, the vehicle needs to be driven at highway speeds. Often in family type running, the vehicle is not driven at highway speeds and this can cause blockage of the DPF requiring that vehicle to be returned to the manufacturers workshop for service incurring a costly workshop repair, and, if sufficiently damaged, a complete replacement of the diesel particulate filter often costing many thousands of dollars.

Again, the great benefit of Pro-Ma Performance Products DT5 diesel fuel treatment, through the action of the Combustion Modifier, the fuel burns more efficiently and completely in the combustion chamber so little to no particulates will be emitted through the exhaust system and into the diesel particulate filter saving significant costs in diesel use and repair and downtime costs.

Adblue Systems are often installed in diesel vehicles again as an attempt to reduce the harmful exhaust emissions. This is done by installing a separate reservoir where the Adblue liquid (simply urea) is injected into the exhaust system when the onboard computer recognises the exhaust emissions are above a certain level. This is designed to "neutralise" the harmful exhaust emissions. Commercial operators of diesel vehicles often report that the consistent use of Pro-Ma Performance Products with the Combustion Modifier reduces and almost eliminates the need for any Adblue to be injected into the exhaust system proving the Combustion Modifier operates as designed as well as saving money.

Q. Can diesel fuel known as "Biodiesel" be safely used or what would be any adverse effects of Biodiesel.

A. Biodiesel is becoming more commonly available particularly in some states of Australia as government authorities try to enforce the addition of ethanol additives in an attempt to introduce "renewal fuel bases". Biodiesel is similar to the addition of ethanol in petrol fuel and can cause some significant problems in the operation of diesel engines. The major problem caused is through the common tendency to absorb moisture from the atmosphere adding to the water content within a fuel system.

Water within a fuel system causes several problems. The common and widely known problem is the creation of bacteria at the interface between the water (being heavier than diesel fuel) and the diesel fuel. This bacteria, commonly called "diesel bug", can increase and cause complete fuel system blockage and can cause complete engine failure occasioning an expensive repair. Further, the Biodiesel fuel can separate so the ethanol then becomes corrosive and can cause extensive damage to fuel system components as well as engine components.

The Pro-Ma Performance Products DT5 diesel fuel treatment contains a component known as "Surfactant". Surfactant can control the water content within a fuel tank by breaking down the water into microscopic particles, commonly less than one micron, and then suspending those particles within the fuel mass which can then pass through the system harmlessly. Wherever possible we recommend operators do not use Biodiesel fuels.
